Dancing thru the Daisies OR Tripping thru the Tulips

Well, I don't know if many of you know or not, but my brother is getting married on February 21. Of course, as the groom's family, I figured that it would be easier than being the bride's family. Oh well. It is easier, but my mom, sister and myself offered any help we could give. So, we were recruited to assemble the centerpieces for the reception.

Design: a glass flower vase with a calla lily submerged in water, topped with a mass of roses, sealing in the vase.

Sounds easy, right? I wish I had had a picture to go by, but between the three of us we figured that we could get "pretty close". (giggle, giggle)

I had the vases, mom had the flowers and other paraphenalia. So on Monday afternoon Alison came over and the mayhem began.

We decided that we needed ribbon to wrap the top of the vases and hide the styrofoam. So off we go to Michaels. Without the flowers to match, of course. And since red is such an easy color to match...we had nooooo problem. In the end, the color that we chose did match very well. New challenge: attach the ribbon to the vase without it looking too tacky. Thankfully, Alison is very gifted and was able to use tape and glue and binder clips.

We were all surprised that after we got a "system" down, things went pretty smoothly and we finished them on Monday evening. Understand that we had scheduled through Wednesday afternoon to complete them. On Tuesday we did have to purchase 2 more calla lilies and glue them into the vases, but that was quick going.

I wish I could show you a finished picture, but they will not be assembled until right before the reception. So you can see what the top looks like:

I am sure they will turn out beautiful and everyone at the reception will rave over the beauty and craftmanship. Well, maybe I will just be content if they look decent and we know they look good. Now to clean up all the styrofoam crumbs, floral wire, tape, hot glue, etc, etc, etc.
